Victor Alexandrovich is a hereditary doctor. His father Alexander Petrovich and mother Natalia Vasilyevna are roentgenologists. His wife Natalia is an M.D. in oncology. There is no doubt that the favorite of the family, daughter Svetlana, will follow her parents’ footsteps.

Victor Alexandrovich finished secondary school with a gold medal, and graduated from the Treatment and Prevention Department, Rostov State University, with honors. One of the best senior students of the University, he received a special scholarship of the President of Russia.

Victor Alexandrovich acquired the highest professional education after residency and postgraduate studentship. His teachers were Victor Markovich Kovalenko and Professor Alexander Olimpiyevich Bukhanovsky (under whose supervision Victor Alexandrovich brilliantly defended his PhD paper and is writing his doctorate thesis now), Assistant Professors Yu.A. Kutiavin, A.Ya. Seletsky, doctor S.P. Kravtsov. Soldatkin’s both thesis papers are dedicated to topical problems and are original. In his PhD thesis, Mental Disorders in the Liquidators of the Chernobyl Atomic Station Disaster Consequences: a Clinical and Pathogenic Analysis, he reconstructed the clinical dynamic model of mental disorder development in those who liquidated the consequences of the disaster, proving a progressive character of such consequences, described the types and stages of the development, dependence on the endogenic and exogenic factors. Using a special biological dosage measurement method, he could first specify the total doze of ionizing radiation, to which these patients were exposed; established was the association between the radiation doze and a number of essential characteristics of the pathological process. He defended his paper in 2002 at the State Research Center for Social and Forensic Psychiatry after Serbsky (Moscow).

Victor Alexandrovich has been employed in Phoenix since 1997; during this period he became a leading expert there. He is highly skilled, independent in solving any problems of psychiatry, fast, grasping: he never stops his work before the result is obtained. He is enterprising, has a good feeling and knowledge of everything new. He is hearty to the patients and their relatives, concerned with the solution of all their problems. He is highly moral, dedicated to his job, patients, psychiatry and the school that raised him.

In October 2000 Soldatkin participated in the Open All-Russian Competition of Young Researchers in Psychiatry and won the 1st Degree Diploma of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. In 2001 he was given the prize of the International Federation of Biological Psychiatry Societies and participated in the 7th World Biological Psychiatry Congress (Berlin, July 2001). In 2002 he was the first young psychiatrist of Russia to win an international award named Raphaelson Medal for his research results in neuro-psycho-pharmacology, took part in the work of the 23rd International Neuro-Psycho-Pharmacologists’ Congress (Montreal, Canada).

His treatment practice is successfully complemented by his educational and research activities. Since 2003 Victor Alexandrovich has been employed as an Assistant at the Psychiatry and Narcology Department, Advanced Training Faculty, Rostov Medical University. In 2004 he was attested and granted the First Qualification Category in psychiatry. The same year planned was a doctorate research Clinical-Pathogenic Comparison of Chemical and Non-Chemical Dependence Diseases (expected time of defense: 2009; place of defense: Rostov State Medical University).

In 2005 he was elected as an assistant professor at the Criminal Law Department, Institute of Management, Business and Law, in legal psychiatry. In 2006 he participated in the 7th International Mind Matters Congress (Dublin, June 2006), and in May 2007 in the 160th Congress of the American Psychiatrists’ Association (San Diego, California, USA).

In 2004-2006, being a member of a research group headed by Prof. A.O. Bukhanovsky, he repeatedly took part in GSP conferences and meetings alongside with those researchers, who carried out international clinical trials (phases II and III).

Victor Alexandrovich published over 50 papers both in Russia and abroad. He is an executor, and now a leader of a number of international research projects. He took part in quite a number conferences, congresses, meetings, including those held in Berlin (Germany, 2001), Montreal (Canada, 2002), Monte Carlo (2004), Malta (2005), Budapest (Hungary, 2006), Copenhagen (Denmark, 2006), Dublin (Ireland, 2006), San Diego (USA, 2007).

Victor Alexandrovich is a leading expert in pathological gambling diagnostics and treatment.

His present research interests are with the problems referred to dependent behavior diseases (non-chemical dependence origin and development, disease development mechanisms, methods of therapy and prevention).

He of himself: I am a third-generation doctor, and this has always influenced the choice of my own path. My fundamental motto is Debes, ergo potes (you must, hence you can). Hopefully I will never lose the basic source of my strength and energy, which is love to people in general and to my family (daughter Svetlana, wife Natalia, and Ma) in particular. By the way my daughter, answering telephone calls in the evening often says: Papa’s at work… lecturing… or curing someone… or I don’t know where, but we’re expecting him!. This really makes you happy.

Soldatkin studies gambling.
He knows how to cure it.

Victor’s self-disciplined, educated,
He’s smart, orderly.
Handsome and tactful.
Victor’s a man of light.
He’s careful and sympathetic
, Prim and smiling,
Our Soldatkin’s just a miracle,
And he’s ahead of his time.
