Summary
We have examined 150 patients suffering from pathological gambling (PG). It was determined that the clinical presentation of this disorder defined by psychophysical dependence, modified reactivity and consequences, is essentially the same as that of dipsomania; in case of PG, heredity is primarily overburdened with dipsomania; pathological gamblers are often alcohol dependent; the patients free from this dependence rather frequently show bright, specific reactions to alcohol; the starting phase of systematic gambling is frequently associated with alcoholization (or its complete interruption); alcoholization renewal plays the part of a frequent factor in the PG remission failure. As a whole, in case of accompanying dipsomania PG has a more frank clinical presentation as it is noted for greater progression. The data obtained testify to PG comorbidity and alcohol dependence.
